How to Store, Defrost, and Serve Wundercat Food Safely

Your Wundercat order has arrived. Now what?

Because Wundercat is made with real, gently cooked ingredients, it should be stored differently from dry food. Proper handling keeps every meal fresh, safe, and delicious from the day it arrives until the last bite.

The good news? There are only three simple rules to remember.

Rules of Safe Handling

  • Freeze at -18°C for up to 3 months
  • Refrigerate at 4°C for up to 3 days after thawing
  • Leave food in the bowl for no longer than 30 to 45 minutes

Follow these three rules, and every meal will stay as fresh and safe as the day it was prepared.

Step 1: Store your order in the freezer

As soon as your Wundercat order arrives, place every meal directly into the freezer.

Stored at -18°C, meals stay fresh for up to 3 months.

Keeping meals frozen preserves their freshness, flavour, and nutritional quality until you’re ready to serve them.

Tip: If you’re organising your freezer, place newer meals behind older ones so you naturally use the oldest meals first.

Step 2: Defrost only what your cat needs

When you’re ready to feed your cat, move only the meals you’ll need over the next few days into the refrigerator.

Allow the meals to thaw slowly in the fridge.

Once thawed, meals can be stored safely at 4°C for up to 3 days.

There’s no need to thaw an entire week’s worth of food at once. Keeping the remaining meals frozen helps preserve maximum freshness.

Step 3: Serve fresh

Once the meal has fully thawed, serve it straight from the fridge.

If your cat prefers their food slightly warmer, simply add a small splash of warm water and mix it through before serving. This gently takes the chill off the meal without affecting its quality.

Do not microwave or cook the food. Wundercat has already been gently cooked and is ready to eat once thawed.

Because Wundercat is fresh food, it shouldn’t stay in the bowl all day.

If your cat hasn’t finished eating within 30 to 45 minutes, discard any leftovers.

This helps reduce bacterial growth and ensures every meal your cat eats is fresh and safe.

Common mistakes to avoid

Fresh food is easy to handle, but avoiding these common mistakes helps keep every meal safe.

Don’t thaw food at room temperature

Leaving food on the kitchen counter may seem quicker, but it isn’t safe.

As the outside of the meal warms, bacteria can begin to multiply before the centre has fully thawed.

Always thaw Wundercat meals in the refrigerator.

Don’t microwave the food

Microwaving heats food unevenly, creating hot spots while leaving other areas cold.

If you’d like to take the chill off the meal, simply stir in a small splash of warm water before serving.

Don’t cook the food

Wundercat has already been gently cooked during preparation.

Cooking it again isn’t necessary and may change both the texture and nutritional balance of the meal.

Simply thaw, serve, and let your cat enjoy it.

Don’t refreeze thawed food

Once a meal has fully thawed, it should remain in the refrigerator until it’s served.

Refreezing thawed food can affect both its quality and food safety, so it shouldn’t be frozen again.

Instead, keep the meal refrigerated and use it within 3 days.
